About

Nathan Clendenin

Photojournalist · Storyteller · Entrepreneur

Nathan Clendenin has spent more than two decades finding and telling stories that matter. He graduated from UNC's Hussman School of Journalism and Media in 2006 with a Master's Degree in Visual Communication. His thesis project, HIV Stories, explored the intersection of HIV, poverty, and faith in the South African township of Mamelodi.

As the first Multimedia Producer for WRAL.com/CBC New Media Group, Nathan combined still photography with Emmy Award-winning multimedia production for one of the Southeast's leading news websites. When he and his wife Rebecca felt called to South Africa, he stepped away from that role to volunteer in community development and storytelling with the nonprofit Africa Revolution — an experience that deepened his commitment to stories that uplift.

In 2011, Nathan founded StoryDriven to help clients tell their own stories. Through compelling testimonials and explorations of cutting-edge scientific advancements, he and the StoryDriven team partnered with organizations like UNC Health, Duke Gardens, and Durham Academy to advance their missions. That work has earned 10 Mid-South Emmy Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, along with numerous additional nominations.

In 2020, Nathan joined Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill as Director of Communications and Marketing, overseeing the school's website and social media. He edits the school's magazine, The Column, advises the Yearbook team, and mentors student-led storytelling and journalism projects across campus. StoryDriven remains active for select projects — Nathan still takes on work for clients whose stories he believes in.

Nathan and Rebecca share a lively home with their four children and, often, an international student. He serves as an elder at their church. When he's not behind a camera or a keyboard, you might find him somewhere in the Blue Ridge Mountains, training for the annual Blue Ridge Relay.
